Letter from Chairperson

Dear Incoming Student,
My name is Fergie Cantos and I am honored to say that this year I will be serving as your Student Government Vice President and Orientation Chairperson. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the St. Joseph’s College Family! Yes, here at St. Joseph’s, we are a family. We work together to help you to succeed. In the fall you will be starting a very important new chapter in your life, and I am delighted that you have chosen SJC to help you through your journey. Currently, the 2014 Orientation Team is working tremendously hard to plan and prepare to make your Orientation Day a very special one, and we hope it will be one of the best days that you will ever have here at the College.

Although it might be a scary thought that by now you should have your life planned out, I am here to let you know “your future is NOT yet written” and here at St. Joseph’s College “the adventure begins” officially at New Student Orientation on September 2! On this day, you will have the opportunity to meet other transfer students, interact with upperclassmen who have volunteered to be your 2014 Orientation Team; and connect with your faculty advisor. I strongly encourage you to attend because you would not want to miss this spectacular day filled with laughter, fun, and important information!
The orientation experience continues through Welcome Week. In addition, you will be receiving more information about the SJC 200 Transfer Seminar which meets throughout the Fall Semester. Its purpose is to help the transition into the college community and to enhance your academic success. In this program, you will learn about college life, the registration process, co-curricular involvement, and many other important issues. Student Government and the Campus Activities Board have already planned some events and activities to ensure that you get introduced to all aspects of campus life. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Sept. 2 – New Student Orientation for Freshmen and Transfer Students
  • Sept. 4 – Back to School Festival
  • Sept. 6 – T.E.A.L. Walk-a-thon
  • Sept. 8 – Investiture of New Students
  • Sept. 9 – Club Fair
  • Sept. 16 – “Nine Deeez Nite” Show
  • Sept. 25 – Trip to “Matilda” on Broadway
  • Sept. 26 – New Student Overnight (optional)

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns during the summer please contact the Office of Student Life at 718.940.5752 or 718-940-5754. I encourage you to like their official Facebook page at: St. Joseph’s College (NY) – Brooklyn Student Life and request to join our Orientation Group: St. Joseph’s College, Brooklyn – Class of 2018.  Enjoy the remainder of your summer. I look forward to meeting you on September 2!
