Letter from Chairperson

July 2015

Dear Incoming Student,

My name is Leticia Salazar and I will be serving as your Student Government Association vice president and orientation chairperson for this upcoming year. I would like to congratulate and welcome you to the St. Joseph’s College family where we all work together to help you succeed in the years to come. Starting this fall, you will begin a new chapter in your life where you will discover the undiscovered, live the unlived and realize how much the College has to offer. Currently, the orientation team is working to plan, organize and prepare an amazing orientation day for you. Not only will this be a very special day, but it will be one of the best days you will have here at SJC.

The transition from high school to college may seem intimidating at first since you will be entering a new school, meeting new people and experiencing new things. However, I want to assure you that if you can make it here at St. Joseph’s College, then you can make it anywhere! At New Student Orientation on August 27, you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow classmates, interact with upperclassmen and connect with your faculty advisers. I encourage you to attend because you do not want to miss this exciting day filled with entertainment, fun and important information!

The orientation experience does not end here, but continues with Welcome Week and throughout the fall semester with the Freshman Year Experience. The purpose of this program is to help you transition into the college community and to enhance your success as an SJC student. You will learn about student life, the registration process, leadership development and many other important topics. The Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board have also planned some events and activities to ensure that you are introduced to all aspects of campus life. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Aug. 27 — New Student Orientation
  • Sept. 1 — Back to School BBQ
  • Sept. 2 — Club Expo
  • Sept. 3 — Investiture of New Students
  • Sept. 12 — T.E.A.L. Walk-a-thon
  • Sept. 15 — Hispanic Heritage Month performance
  • Sept. 18 — Trip to Mets vs. Yankees game
  • Sept. 24 — Trip to “ Les Miserables” on Broadway
