Welcome to SJC
Dear Incoming Student,
Welcome to St. Joseph’s College and congratulations! You should be very proud of the milestone you have accomplished. Our names are Juanita Arias, President of the Student Government Association, and Christopher Malcaus, Vice President of the Student Government Association and Orientation Chairman. We are so happy that you will be joining St. Joseph’s as we conclude our Centennial Celebration and continue to build new leaders of the world…you! As you read this letter, your future mentors are collaborating to plan a memorable orientation. These mentors (and hopefully your future friends) will be the backbone of Orientation Day and of your transition into college life at SJC. As students, we know firsthand the insecurities of entering a new environment and want to be there for you in every step. For this reason, our Orientation Leaders represent every class year and a variety of majors, clubs, and teams present on campus and they will also be here to welcome you on August 24th.
Whether you are a transfer student or beginning your college career as a freshman, we would like to invite you to attend this special day. You will have the opportunity to learn about the history and values of St. Joseph’s College. Additionally, you will interact with your fellow peers as you prepare to launch into a universe full of enlightening and unforgettable discoveries. Your Orientation Day will be filled with fun activities and incredible surprises all related to the theme: “Reach Beyond the Stars and Discover New Worlds.” This will be the first stop on your exploration of the “SJC Cosmos!”
This day is just the beginning of your journey! As you start the semester, you will be introduced to the First Year Experience or SJC 200 Transfer Seminar. Although you will only meet once a week with your respective class, the knowledge and support you will gain at each of the meetings will help you succeed in your academic endeavors. In these programs, you will have the opportunities to engage with your peers, learn about the registration process, major choices, and the academic, social and service events that take place daily at SJC.
The Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board are working hard this summer on early events to welcome you. Here are some highlights:
Aug. 24 — New Student Orientation
Aug. 29 — Back-to-School “90’s Party” and Movie on the Mall – “Space Jam”
